FOREIGN POLICY: Council on Foreign Relations
Thank you, Pete. Thank you very much. Well, it is a great privilege and honor to be back here at the Council and I want to thank Pete for that kind introduction. It's another small world story; I had no idea he had ever lived in Park Ridge, Illinois. And I want to congratulate you, Pete, on the recent re-naming of the Institute for International Economics in your honor. That is a great tribute to the wonderful service that you have provided to the public over many years at the Council and government and now at what will be known as the Peterson Institute.

VOTING RIGHTS: Reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act
Mr. President, I am also here to voice my support for the Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks, and Coretta Scott King Voting Rights Act Reauthorization and Amendments Act of 2006. It is so fitting that this legislation reauthorizing this landmark civil rights act would be named for three women who are so well known as heroines of the struggle for civil rights in our own country. Thousands of Americans risked their lives and some unfortunately lost them during the civil rights movement to challenge an electoral system that prevented millions of our fellow citizens from exercising their constitutional right to vote. After a long struggle by activists and everyday citizens, President Johnson introduced and eventually signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 into law.

PRIVACY: American Constitution Society
Thank you very much, Paul. It’s wonderful to be here this morning, and I greatly appreciate the opportunity to come before you and speak on a topic that is timely every day, once again today, namely privacy rights. It is a little bit daunting to be introduced by one of the great practitioners of privacy rights law as Paul is.

SOCIAL JUSTICE: ACORN’s 2006 National Convention
That was so nice, oh, thank you all, thank you. Good Morning ACORN.
My goodness, this place is filled. All of you coming together on behalf of a progressive agenda for our country; and I came first and foremost to say thank you. You know, I am one of those who remembers the beginnings of ACORN in Arkansas all of those years ago. The headquarters for ACORN was near the Governor's mansion. And I started a group called Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families and we worked on a lot of important issues and I noticed just the other day that the minimum wage was raised in Arkansas thanks to ACORN and the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families.

WOMEN'S RIGHTS: National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association Luncheon
Thank you so much Judy. It is a delight and an honor to be with you. I particularly want to commend Judy for her leadership. NFPRHA is fortunate to have you at the helm. Thirty-five years of advocacy and service and education. There’s no better place for us to gather than the Sewell-Belmont house. One of the iconic structures that really was the home of so much that went into the women’s movement, the suffrage movement and everything that we gained during the 20th century as women.

A NEW DIRECTION: New York State Democratic Convention
Delegates, I’m honored to be here and deeply, deeply grateful for your support and I accept your nomination to the United States Senate. You know as I was standing backstage and watching the film, so many memories came flooding back. Really, the film could have been about 24 hours long because so many of you and countless others across our state have been so kind and supportive. You’ve been constructive critics, you’ve been advocates, you have stood with me over the last years and it has been the privilege of a lifetime to stand up for you in the United States Senate.

ENERGY POLICY: The National Press Club
It is wonderful to be back here at the Press Club. And I thank you for the invitation.
I am delighted to have a chance to talk about an issue that is not going away, and it is not just about gas prices, because we've been here before. We've seen gas prices go up and the country scurry around trying to decide what to do to wean ourselves from imported oil, to be more self-sufficient, only to have gas prices fall and everybody just forget about what we need to do to protect ourselves going forward.

ECONOMIC PLAN: The Economic Club of Chicago’s 78th Annual Dinner Meeting
It is great to be back in Chicago and to be here at this distinguished gathering. I don't know that I've ever sat at a longer head table. And it is a great pleasure to be introduced by Miles White.

WOMEN'S RIGHTS: The Inaugural Doherty-Granoff Forum on Women Leaders at Brown University
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. It is absolutely a delight and an honor to be back at Brown, especially to be introduced by a woman whom I admire greatly, and I know how respected and loved she is here on this campus. You know, you have a lesson every single day about women in leadership watching Ruth Simmons as she leads this great university. She’s been a role model, an inspiration, and just an all around wonderful human being, and I am grateful for her friendship and for her example.

I pray for us as a nation that Hillary Clinton becomes our president. As spinners were ravaging her tears yesterday, I cried with her, as I felt the pain from deep inside about what is happening to our country. She truly is what I think to be the only person who can truly feel, not just think about what we need to do. I pray for her and for us. Thanks, Trish Caufield
